Depression is a learned mechanism to reduce stress. As we have not learned to tackle the stress that arises within, we start depending upon external means to minimize stress.
Depression is not necessarily a disorder but an iatrogenic condition.
It is a product of our social upbringing and indoctrination.
It is a reaction mechanism we have learned to cope up with the pressures.
Do not look for a single cause of depression or suicide. The cause you ascribe is only a trigger for the emotion or the act. The actual cause lies in all the experiences one goes through the life.
Depression is not a result of something happening in life at the moment.
It depends on how the negative happenings are gathered, accumulated, and remembered.
It is a consequence of a series of wrong decisions we have made.
So, all it needs on your part is to start looking at it afresh. The moment you make the earlier, fixed, and established reaction, you stop looking at possible alternatives.
Let yourself induce the idea that there can be another way of looking at it.
The best way to do so is to recognize a few signs and symptoms in them.
Do not look out only for Sadness, loneliness, or disinterestedness, look out also for the following.

Feeling frustrated
Being irritable
Showing anger
Not doing well in their vocation
Blaming oneself or others

“My suffering has no bounds”
“Others are fine”
“Others are lucky”
“Whatever I do goes wrong!”
“I am to be blamed for all my failures”
“Everyone is working against me”
Never tell them to
Cheer up
Do yoga or exercise
Go for a walk
Talk to someone
Listen to music,
Watch a movie
Go and enjoy
Be with people
Not to be alone
Develop a hobby
Be energetic
Go to a therapist, etc.
You will get an angry response and they will start avoiding you!
The best way to keep away depression is to prevent it!
