Transforming Difficulty to Ease
When we encounter problems, it often becomes difficult for us to face
them. If we can reduce the difficulty, then we may be able to take on more
problems and find solutions.
When tasks become difficult, we must know how to
transform the difficulty into a workable mode so that it becomes easy for us.
The
difficulty arises because we are not prepared for it. Adhering to the following
Mantra helps us in reducing the difficulty.
If we
have to make it easy for us
We should
INVITE problems
And not
ATTRACT problems
Inviting
Problems
Let
us say, I am inviting people to a function. When I invite, I decide who should
be invited. I am ready to cater to the people I have invited. I will know
approximately how many people are going to turn up. People who I do not know
will rarely come to the function.
Attracting
Problems
On
the other hand, when I attract, I am like a sweet that attracts houseflies. I
attract them wherever I go. I will attract not only houseflies but other
insects, animals, and people. They will follow me irrespective of whether I
want them to follow me or not. I will have no idea how many problems are going
to come.
Problems
Chase you
We
probably have seen plenty of people who attract problems. Whatever they do and
wherever they go, they keep facing one problem or another. These people will
have to learn to invite specific problems and face them rather than attracting
all sorts of problems and suffering.
List
Problems
So,
the answer lies in preparing a list of problems one is willing to face. We
should enlist only those problems to which we have a solution worked out. Those
solutions that are not under our control should be eliminated from the list.
Running
Away
Problems
are part of life. Running away from one problem, we may end up facing several
problems. Who knows where we reach or do we keep running perennially and
accumulate more problems?
Avoiding problems
Avoiding
problems is even more dangerous. The moment difficulty comes, we have to take
it as a challenge, rather than a threat from which we need to escape.
Eat
Every Day
There
is no periodical check about what we are doing. We want to tackle the problem
in one go but we can’t. It is like eating an animal in one go. If we have to
live longer, we have to eat every day.
Manageable
Pieces
Similarly,
the difficulty is reduced when we break the problem into manageable pieces. If
one handkerchief takes five minutes to dry in the sun, how many minutes do 10
handkerchiefs take to dry in the sun simultaneously?
Success
Rate
If
your success rate is 20% for one task, even if you do the same type of task five
times, the success rate will still be 20%. We somehow think that 20 X 5 = 100
but this is not true. We just feel that we have worked harder and we expect better
returns from the tasks. To make it easy, all we need to do is to find out our
success rate and keep increasing our success rate, without bothering about
multiplying our tasks.
R O
I
Our
investment does not match our returns. If we invest 100 Rupees, we must get at
least one Rupee more than 100 Rupees. What is happening now is, we are getting
only one Rupee for every hundred Rupees invested, and that is why we feel that
things are difficult.
Time
and Resources
We
rarely consider the time and resources that we have invested. So, calculating
the return on investment makes sense. Why it becomes difficult because we do
not do it in stages and we do not measure our performance. If I have to climb
10 floors, I have to give sufficient time and energy to it. I can’t hurry up
just because I am desperate. While climbing, I have to climb one or two steps
at a time. I can’t say, I am in a hurry, and climb ten or twenty steps at a
time.
Practice
Practicing what is difficult for you will make it easy for you. Start with small
steps so that you can later conquer bigger steps. Practice the performance you
are expected to do and follow the Mantra:
If
you don’t have it in you, you can’t take it out
Possess
it first to use it later in life
