Chapter 2: Is Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri Performing Magic?
Magic
is based on absolute scientific principles. The practitioner of magic is an
artist who has mastered the application of science. However, despite their
prowess, the practitioners attribute their finite skill to a deity or force.
Initially,
as science was in its infancy, it was thought that magic happened because of
some supernatural or mysterious force. Even today, this is the same meaning
magic carries (See magic
– supernatural phenomenon).
However,
as science progressed into a materialistic framework, it was felt that these forces are unexplainable and
hence should be kept out of the realm of science. This was prevalent for a long
period where actual instances of magic were nullified.
This
is the belief that the WIPs
(Well-informed Ignorant Persons) continue to have even today despite all
supernatural events being studied scientifically. We shall come to that a
little later.
The
safest explanation the materialistic scientists gave was that it was beyond their understanding.
As real supernatural events could not be nullified completely, the so-called modern magicians started imitating these feats.
In modern-day
vocabulary, magic means the one orchestrated by stage or field magicians. They
started becoming famous because they could create an illusion and entertain the
masses. They were efficient in using deception, sleight of hand, misdirection,
illusion, conjuring, and trickery.
As
they started becoming famous and successful, they and the other so-called
scientists began negating supernatural occurrences. It is like artificial
jewelers one day saying that the original golden jewels are faked. When every
individual is now forced to wear artificial jewels, probably this may become
true.
The
greatest criticism against Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri is that the
individuals he picks up are planted by him and his team.
Modern
magic is dependent on make-believe. Magicians cannot perform without the 4 Ps –
planning, preparation, practice, and perfection. They will need sufficient
gadgets and props to successfully perform their magic. Almost all these
magicians perform to a small crowd (or close-up groups) when they use planted
colleagues. Let them try to plant someone in a crowd of lakhs of people!
Let
us see what they are capable of doing. They will prompt you to mentally recall
a name or a set of numbers and then they tell out loudly or write down what that
name or the set of numbers is. However, Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri writes
down before the devotee says anything and lists out a series of problems the
individual is facing. I don’t think any modern magician can do this!
Another criticism against Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri is that he is ‘mind reading’.
All magicians know that the mind reading they do is an illusion but they keep
putting up shows and showing off their skills as ‘Mentalists’. If anyone
watches the videos on Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s Divya Darbar, they will
immediately come to know that he says something that is not even known to the
individual.
The
mentalists force the audience to remember without which they can’t perform the
tricks. Let them write something beforehand in so much detail as Shri Dhirendra
Krishna Shastri does and claim to read the mind!
Most mentalists claim that they can read the mind of a person. What if the information is not known to the individual? For instance, Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri told a woman where to find her missing husband! I have witnessed such instances happening elsewhere at different places around Bengaluru. A poor villager has lost a cow that is essential for his survival. And the seer tells him exactly where to find the cow. I once again don’t think any modern magician can do this!
Some
of them even gave demonstrations on national TV to emphasize that they could also
do what Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri is doing. Once they came to know that
Bageshwar Dham Sarkar had cards up his sleeve (where journalists were asked to
choose the person and the order in which the writings are read), they disappeared
from the scene.
In
addition, the amount of information Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri reveals is
something that modern mentalists cannot fathom.
The
present scenario has changed. Science has progressed enough to include Parapsychology
in the realm of science. (See Chapter 1: Is Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri scientifically comprehensible?) What
was once considered supernatural is no longer so and is quite natural. (See Bageshwar Dham Sarkar – A Scientific Perspective)
The
skeptics and materialists argue that if it is a natural phenomenon then
everyone must be able to do it. Just like only professionals can become
astronauts, only a handful can participate in the Olympics, and only a few can
climb the Himalayan mountain, similarly only a few can perform these so-called
miracles.
Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri is not
an exception but he is exceptional.
Ancient
Indian texts talk about such feats as visualizing a person’s life thoroughly.
There are thousands of such Siddhas
(enlightened beings who have accomplished Siddhis).
Shamans,
mystics, and “witch” doctors also come under this category. There is a whole
lot of scientific literature that keeps getting published. It is even studied
under Occult Sciences, and those who are doubtful can go through the Encyclopedia
of Occult Sciences or Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology.
Such accomplished people are found throughout the world, each one catering to the needs of the
local populace. One such instance can be found in the following video.
Modernization
is slowly killing these skills all over the world including in India. Several
countries have been wiped out of spirituality but a considerable amount still exists
in India. All one has to do is go through the book “Autobiography of a Yogi”
written by Paramahansa Yogananda. Though modernization is spreading like cancer,
now and then people like Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri keep throwing up
challenges to the WIPs.
India is the only place on earth where every ancient literature is oriented towards spirituality. Where else do you have so many types of Siddhas like rishi, naga sadhu, sadhu, siddhar, sanyasi, sant, Guru, Yogi, Rishi muni, Sant, Tapasvi, baba, mantrik, tantrik, and scores of other words depicting different types of their accomplishments?
What
Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri does is different from those that are practiced
throughout the world. In most cases, the individual is possessed by a deity and he goes into a trance. This state of trance is explained as an “Altered
State of Consciousness” by modern parapsychologists.
Shri
Dhirendra Krishna Shastri does not go into any trance but is very well aware of
the surroundings. He keeps the devotees in a good sense of humor and now and
then greets Hanuman or Balaji Maharaj or Sanyasi Baba or Jai Sriram
or Sitaram.
While
in most of the cases throughout India, the individual is possessed by a female
deity, in Bageshwar Dham we can see that Lord Hanuman is guiding the whole
process, as claimed by Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri.
In
some places a different deity is present and several people are affected by them.
One such example can be found in Theyyam,
a practice prevalent in Kerala. The video below shows how these people are
dressed while going through the process.
This
is quite similar to the “Bhoota Kola”
performed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi of Karnataka, India. This has become
famous through the film Kaantara.
In
most cases, it is a kind of ‘question-and-answer’ session where people can ask
questions and find solutions to their problems. However, in Bageshwar Dham, Shri
Dhirendra Krishna Shastri himself lists out the questions and then provides
solutions.
Every tribe and every ancient civilization has these practices. However, it is continuing in India despite the attacks on India’s culture for over a thousand years. At least in South India, we can witness such occurrences within every 50 to 100-kilometer radius. Of course not all of them are genuine. There are charlatans present here too, like in all fields, as a large number of people are involved. There are quacks pretending to be doctors and similarly, there are impostors here, too.
The invaders were more or less successful in other parts of the world, where they
could eliminate the indigenous culture from its roots. Only those tribal
societies and settlements that could escape the genocide continue to have these
practices.
The joke below tells us that not all is forgotten by the modern world. Despite scientific developments, they trust tradition more than science.
For
hundreds of years, there were systematic attempts by Westerners through propaganda
to undermine magic. They attributed it to superstitious beliefs, primitive
practices, and lack of education. They even encouraged witch-hunting and killed
lakhs of innocent people.
Ancient Indian texts mention Indrajala, which has been in vogue since time immemorial. However, there are two forms of magic – white magic and black magic. both these were classified under Occultism and it is quite unfortunate that they were relegated as unscientific. Occult, sorcery, spirit possession, voodoo, witchcraft, spiritism, etc., can be used for both evil and good purposes but somehow they were all labeled as primitive and dangerous.
Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri only uses Shukla Indrajala (white magic) and does not use it for selfish or evil purposes.
In
addition, he removes the ill effects of black magic over the person/s and gives
them specific mantras (chants) to ward off further damage. Watch the video below to understand how this is done.
To
answer the question of whether Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri performs magic or not,
it is a ‘no’ if you mean magic from the modern perspective. However, from a
traditional viewpoint, without ascribing any negative connotations, Shri
Dhirendra Krishna Shastri performs magic, which is called supernatural but can
be understood through natural scientific laws and is more spiritual.
To summarize, Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham is a pure professional who uses “white magic” for the benefit of the masses by listing out their problems and offering them solutions.
