What Psychologists Don’t Talk About Educated Thinking?
‘Endured Thinking’ dominates our survival and gradually leads to Offensive behavior as we have seen in the earlier article. We fall short of the way we can control our thinking, which has led to a lack of ‘Regulated Thinking’. The question before us is whether we can nurture our thinking to suit the demands of the situations we encounter or not. This is What Psychologists Don’t Talk About Educated Thinking?
The
greatest mistake made by almost everyone is to equate literacy with education.
As I have pointed out elsewhere, all of us are technically illiterate. All we
need to do is to go to another state where we don’t know the language. We
suddenly turn into an illiterate! So, literate people need not have to show
superiority for being able to read and write.
Now
the question is about education. The basic objective of education is to nurture
your thinking so that you become a contributing member of society. It qualifies
you to understand and deal with problems so that the value system is restored
in society. (See ‘What
Psychologists Don’t Talk About Value System?’)
However,
when politicians enter the arena of education to decide how to educate the
masses, they are prone to be manipulated by vested interests.
For
several thousand years, India had Universities that imparted education, and
temples that served as learning centers. Over the last thousand years, almost
all ancient Universities were burnt, and several thousand temples were
destroyed for religious reasons. However, education did not suffer much because,
in India, education is imparted within the family and is part of Indian
culture.
Then
there arrived the Western Influence, where instead of physically destroying the
education centers, it tried to psychologically destroy the existing education.
The tool (weapon) that was used to enslave Indians was the English language.
Those
who learned English were rewarded with jobs, salary, and status. Some were
“educated” in England and they later became the rulers of the country, who
twisted history to suit their political agenda.
Five
decades ago, we were fined in schools if we spoke in the local language, Kannada.
Anything that represented Indian culture was associated with shame.
This
is carried on even to this day. The only change is Britain has been replaced by
America and other countries. People feel sophisticated when they go abroad for
study or work, without realizing that they have been enslaved for cheap labor.
As
students and teachers of psychology, we are dependent on textbooks and
reference materials that are provided by American authors. The USA, in its
aspiration to become a world leader, has tried to conquer our thoughts and
actions to suit its needs. They took over from what the British used to offer
earlier.
In
India, Western psychology is viewed as highly practical and scientific. All
experiments we conduct in our laboratories are borrowed directly from Western
psychologists. We have been made to look down upon Indian, Russian, Chinese,
Japanese, and other indigenous philosophies and psychologies.
However,
this has made us suffer by not being able to solve modern problems. On the
other hand, problems have increased to such a great extent that modern
psychology is unable to answer most of them.
The
greatest discovery of the Western world that was introduced to indoctrinate (make
the masses think in a desired way) was the so-called “Education”.
Whether
Abraham Lincoln said it or not, the adage, “You cannot fool all the people all
the time” is almost true.
Western
media has been successfully able to penetrate the masses by rewarding those who
complete “education”. They are economically, socially, and financially well-off
when compared to others. However, their physical, psychological, and spiritual
well-being have deteriorated and the “educated” people spend their wealth,
time, and resources to get back what they have lost.
Modernization
kills diversity, variety, and ingenuity. It is programmed to kill them
gradually and methodically. Please watch the video on how, in the name of
education, there were genocides of children who didn’t toe the line.
America
expects students from other countries to be well-equipped, well-versed, and
competent. It has innumerable tests to filter out mediocrity. However, it
doesn’t understand that these students, once they complete their education, are
the ones who are running the show. The younger generation in America has become
obsolete.
For
instance, Americans can’t answer simple questions like
- “How long is a quarter of an hour?”
- “How much is three cube?”
- “How many weeks are in a year?”
- “How many years is a decade?”
If
you don’t trust me, just type “Dumb Americans” in YouTube Search!
Why
am I singling out America? Do I have something against the country?
I
have nothing against anyone. However, the USA is the world leader, a global
superpower, and the most influential country on the planet. What happens in
America will be copied by other countries who are aiming to become better.
Russia, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and
others have undergone tremendous change and have lost most of their ancient
capabilities.
Africa
and South America have too diverse cultures to be largely affected by
Westernization or Modernization. However, these two continents have modified their
lifestyle and food habits to cater to modern markets so much that you can
see their population being affected by obesity and other modern diseases.
China
is now changing its educated thinking by imparting practical skills that benefit its people in the long run. In another twenty-five years, China may
overtake all other countries, thanks to its creative approach to learning.
Watch the video below to see a glimpse of it.
India,
especially, has a knack for imbibing modernity without losing its spiritual
essence, irrespective of the amount of cajoling or threat.
One
best example is the “Maha Kumbh Mela” that is going on now at Prayagraj, where
400 million people are expected to participate within 45 days. What draws such
a huge crowd is highly spiritual and very few people attend the event with
materialistic goals.
Where
else on earth can you find millions of ascetics, who have renounced their
materialistic comforts and luxuries?
Where
else can you find spiritual discourse as the focus of the event?
Where
else can you meet the sages who dwell in the depths of the Himalayas?
Where
else can you find millions of people being fed 24/7 for free?
Mark
Twain, the American Humanist had something positive to say after attending one
of the Kumb Melas in 1895, and it holds good even to this day.
It
is not surprising that millions of people from the Western-educated world are
coming to see the mega event and participate in the holy dip.
If
the objective of Western education was to change the thinking and bring it into
a single mold, then it has become unsuccessful because it is creating zombies
who are not good at anything. The Western-educated people have become largely
unemployed and their purchasing power has also dwindled.
The
essence of modern education has landed people into becoming “money chasers”.
Whether they study in America or elsewhere, they are indoctrinated to think
that money is everything and the more they have it, the better their life will
be. This is such an immature and faulty reasoning as we have seen in ‘What
Psychologists Don’t Talk About Happiness?’ and ‘What
Psychologists Don’t Talk About Choices?’
Americans
are now starting to realize that “peace of mind” is within the individual,
especially after they encounter Indians who are not Western educated. Watch the
video below to get a glimpse of it.
What
is not taught in modern schools is to value honesty and truthfulness. Deceit,
cunningness, lying, cheating, stealing, misdirecting, misleading, manipulating,
blackmailing, etc. are considered virtues and a sign of intelligence. Even
children at home are encouraged to learn these and the educated parents are
happy that the child is capable of dishonesty and disrespect.
I
did not have highly educated parents but I was just told not to touch something
that doesn’t belong to me. There is a beautiful saying in Hindi, which roughly
translates as “The name of everyone who eats it is written on every grain” (दाने दाने पे लिखा है खानेवाला का नाम).
You
cannot corrupt the one with the above philosophy engrained in the mind as a
child. Watch one of the YouTube Shorts below:
It
takes a lot of maturity, courage, and moral strength to say “no” when $100 is
offered to the guy who sells noodles for Rs. 10/- (12 Cents, approximately).
The
more you depend on modern education, the greater you get corrupted in your
thinking and thereby it leads to consciousness pollution. You are programmed
with words like career, winning, scalability, dreaming big, etc. They all look
like positive words, but they are actually dangerous to the individual psyche
because the thought that is implanted is largely unrealistic. (See ‘CHOOSINGNEEDS, WANTS, AND ASPIRATIONS’, ‘Planningyour Career’, and ‘PositiveThinking’).
The objective of education ought to be to mold the individual to be a better person inculcating self-discipline, value system, and morality. However, now education has been used to make people intellectual slaves who can offer either skilled or manual labor.
The objective of modern
education is to make you insecure, dissatisfied, and greedy.
It puts you into a rat race where you spend your lifetime fighting for your
physical, psychological, and social survival. Once your thinking gets corrupted,
it is very difficult to come off the toxicity. You may even go to the extent of
hating me for saying this. This is What Psychologists Don’t Talk About Educated
Thinking?
Know why I am doing a series on this?
Let me know if I am wrong. I have started this series because there
are hundreds of things psychologists don’t talk about. I feel that it would
benefit everyone if they did so. I hope at least now, they will make a
beginning.
This is
an attempt to bring to the fore what has been hidden for a very long time.
